In DnD an artificer can learn weapon infusions. With weapon infusions the character could use the returning weapon infusion, meaning when a weapon is thrown it will return to their hand (like Thor’s hammer), this can be done at 2nd level. One of the 1st level spells is catapult. So, you can get the throwable weapon feat, put the returning weapon infusion on any weapon you like, say a mace. Then throw the mace at the enemy and deal 1d8 damage, then cast catapult on the mace as a bonus action dealing another 3d8 damage, then the weapon will return to your hand meaning for the cost of a 1st level spell slot you do an average of 16 damage at 2nd level, this will increase at higher levels or with different weapons.
